Hey, I'm Stephanie!
I’m a science communicator, planetary astronomer, and content strategist (not necessarily in that order). I love finding ways to make complicated science approachable and fun.
Today, I’m the Astronomy Content Strategist for NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory, where I get to do what I love for a living: tell stories about astronomy, help people understand how we explore the Universe, and occasionally get very excited about rocks in space.
When I’m not talking about astronomy, you’ll probably find me reading an enormous fantasy book, planning my next mountain hiking adventure with my hubby, or hanging out with my cat.
Science communication
I discovered the world of science communication during graduate school and quickly fell in love with it. I’ve written articles for Astrobites, given public talks, led and participated in science communication training workshops, and helped organize conferences including ComSciCon and Science Talk. In 2019, I was a science reporter at The Indianapolis Star through the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. Now, I get to widely share the incredible science made possible by Rubin Observatory!
PhD research
I earned my PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan in 2019, where I spent five years using data from the Dark Energy Survey to study…not dark energy. Instead, I repurposed the survey to discover and study new objects in the outer Solar System beyond Neptune, helping us piece together what our Solar System looked like billions of years ago and how it has evolved since.
